Thermoplastic Materials for plastic injection

ABS: Good impact strength, rigid, cost-effective, good machinability, easily electroplated.
ABS/PC: Superior impact strength compared to PC or ABS alone, good heat resistance, high stiffness, improved flame retardancy versions.
HDPE: Excellent chemical resistance, low moisture absorption, high impact strength, low cost, good processability.
LCP: Exceptional strength and stiffness at high temperatures, very low coefficient of thermal expansion, inherent flame retardancy (UL94 V-0), minimal flash.
LDPE: Excellent chemical resistance, flexible, good electrical insulator, low cost, transparent in thin sections.
LLDPE: Higher impact, tensile strength, and puncture resistance than LDPE, high flexibility, excellent environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR).
Nylon (PA): High mechanical strength and stiffness, good toughness, excellent wear and abrasion resistance, good chemical resistance to oils and fuels.
PBT: High strength and stiffness, fast crystallization (fast cycle times), good electrical properties, low moisture absorption for a polyester.
Polycarbonate (PC): Very high impact strength (notched Izod), excellent transparency, good heat resistance, high dimensional stability.
PC/PBT: Good chemical and solvent resistance, high impact strength at low temperatures, excellent weathering stability.
PEEK: Exceptional thermal resistance (long-term use > 240°C), excellent chemical resistance, high mechanical properties retained at elevated temperatures, high wear resistance.
PEI (Ultem): High heat resistance (glass transition ~217°C), high strength and modulus, inherent flame retardancy (UL94 V-0), transparent amber color.
PET (Thermoplastic): High strength and stiffness, good chemical resistance, excellent dimensional stability, good barrier properties.
PETG: High clarity and gloss, high impact strength, excellent chemical resistance, low odor and taste transmission, easy to process.
PMMA (Acrylic): Excellent optical clarity and light transmission, high gloss and surface hardness, good UV and weather resistance.
POM (Acetal/Delrin): High strength, stiffness, and toughness, excellent creep resistance, low friction and high wear resistance, high dimensional stability.
Polypropylene (PP): Excellent chemical resistance, high fatigue resistance (e.g., living hinges), low density, low cost, good impact strength.
PPE/PS (also known as PPO): High heat resistance, excellent dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, good dielectric properties over a wide temperature range.
PPS: Exceptional thermal and chemical resistance, inherent flame retardancy (UL94 V-0), high dimensional stability, excellent creep resistance.
PS (General Purpose): Rigid, transparent, low cost, excellent dimensional stability, easy to process, high gloss.
PSU (Polysulfone): High thermal and oxidative stability, transparent (amber), high rigidity and strength, good resistance to creep and sterilization.
TPE/TPV: Flexible and elastic (rubber-like), excellent compression set, good weather and chemical resistance, recyclable, can be overmolded onto rigid thermoplastics.
TPU: High abrasion and wear resistance, excellent toughness and flexibility, good resistance to oils, greases, and fuels.

Rubber materials for extrusion

  • Chloroprene, Neoprene® (CR): Excellent resistance to water, flame, and weather.

  • Ethylene-Propylene (EPDM): Excellent ozone and weather resistance.

  • Nitrile, Buna-N (NBR): Superior oil and fuel resistance; ideal for gaskets.

  • Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR): Enhanced resistance to oil, chemicals, and high temperatures.

  • Silicone (VMQ): High temperature stability, chemically inert, and biocompatible.

  • Butyl (IIR): Very low gas and air permeability.

  • Styrene-Butadiene (SBR): Good abrasion resistance and low cost; a general-purpose rubber.

  • Fluorocarbon (FKM, Viton®): Exceptional resistance to high heat, chemicals, and weathering.

  • Hypalon® (CSM): Excellent resistance to ozone, UV, weathering, and chemicals.

  • Natural Rubber (NR): High tear strength, abrasion resistance, and dynamic fatigue resistance.

  • Polyurethane (AU, EU): Excellent tensile strength, and abrasion and tear resistance.

  • Fluorosilicone (FVMQ): Silicone-like properties with improved fuel and oil resistance.

  • Epichlorohydrin (ECO): Good heat, ozone, and fuel resistance with low gas permeability.

  • Santoprene®: Good compression set, aging, and chemical resistance; flexible.

  • FDA Approved Rubber: Non-toxic, odorless, tasteless, and resistant to mold and water.
